In my backyard prepping fossils. The prep work requires the use of hand dental tools and toothbrushes. I used the dental picks to remove fine layers rock away from the fossils. It is exacting work requiring good light.

Hammering out a rock with brachiopods in it. The rock face is the Woodhurst Member Of the Lodgepole Formation part of the Madison Limestone Group. Much of my time in the mountains is bushwacking on steep scree covered slopes.

I used to fossil hunt in the Alpine area of South Texas with the college. I was fortunate enough to dig an ammonite out of a fossil bed on a cliff overlooking I 20.

Last summer was the first summer I devoted to collecting fossils and other longtime interests. It has also been a self-guided crash course in geology and paleontology.

A few snowstorms have come and gone. Snow will be arriving on Friday. Now that Fall has come and gone, I’m now in my studio for the winter. When not working on art I am prepping fossils and logging them.

In my back yard working at my makeshift worktable. I’m cleaning fossils found on block of limestone. While there were rain clouds pass trough all day, I could not give up the chance to work out doors.

What kind of fossils did you find?

The fossils are bryozoan, Crinoids, and coral of the late Mississippian. The limestone is from the Madison group, Mission Canyon member.

Thank you. I had a real interest in Geology down in Midland Texas 10 years ago and collected many fossils including an amonite. i kept them for a few years and then give them to one of my nieces.
